Princess Sarita has everything. Loving parents, a castle fit for royalty, fine clothes, loyal friends, and an exciting job as a scholar of magic. At eighteen years of age, one might think that she would be content with her position. But one thing has always been missing from her life... full magic, itself.

When a strange old woman gave Sarita a secret spellbook as a child, her entire life was changed. The book contains spells, songs, and stories. But most of all, it provides a path to gaining full magic, the only thing that Sarita still needs to feel complete. And now, she has finally prepared to leave her home in search of the Stones of the Divine, the final ingredient she needs to gain magic.

Gabrielle has been known as the sister of a knight and best friend of the princess for as long as she can remember. Now an experienced healer's assistant, she is desperate to find her place and purpose in Junacave. An adventurous mission to help Sarita locate a mystical stone may be just the change in her life that she is looking for.

King Cassidy is still alone, but not for a lack of trying. His attempts to convince the Princess of Junacave to marry him over the past ten years have been for naught. And being twenty years old, with no heir, he is running out of time. If he can't win the heart of the princess, he may have to face a future without the love of his life.

Adventure, romance, and magic await as we travel through Everealm with royalty, wizards, fairies, and more, in the fantasy-romance Songs of Everealm, a five book series by J.D. Wright, author of the Everealm Series.

Note: Adult Content

Songs of Everealm Series is the second series set in the fantasy-filled Everealm. It begins 8 years after the conclusion of the first series, the Everealm Series, but can be read separately.

History of my copy: I received a free copy of Songs of Sovereign through YA Bound Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. Check out my stop on the blog tour on July 29th.

The Songs of Everealm series takes place 8 years after the final book of Wright’s other series, the Everealm series. However, this series can be read separately. I haven’t read the previous series and haven’t felt like I am missing anything.

Plot: Songs of Sovereign follows Princess Sarita on a quest to obtain a stone that shall give her full magic. Whilst she initially sets off on her quest with only Gabby, soon there is a whole bunch of them traversing the land together, leading to some very amusing moments!
Intertwining with this main plot, there are numerous romantic sub-stories that make up Songs of Sovereign. First, there is King Cassidy and his endless pursual of Sarita. Then there is Gabby who is engaged with Garrison but clearly still in love with Oliver, who is courting Calista. Then Asher discovers that his destined mate is actually the fairy Emery. That may seem like a lot of romance for just one book, but Wright has always made it clear that her books contain as much romance as they do magic.
Whilst I’m not a huge romance fan, I thoroughly enjoyed Songs of Sovereign. The plot felt fresh, full of twists and was certainly interesting enough and often the romance just added comedy to the plot, rather than completely overtaking the story.

Setting: Wright has created a wonderful world in Everealm, a land I could lose myself in forever. Whilst I feel as if Songs of Sovereign would benefit from a little more description, especially as she has created such a detailed realm, it is certainly sufficient.

Characters: Another good thing about this book is the range of characters. This has actually led me to not having any specific favourites, although I do want to shout out Oliver as I love him! My perhaps on criticism is the development of Calista. Whilst it is nice to see her get along with Emery, I think it would have made things a little more interesting if she actually remained hating magic – it certainly would have added a different layer to the groups’ interactions.

To read or not to read: Read. Overall, Songs of Sovereign is all that it claimed to be. A romance filled magical quest that is well-written enough to keep you hooked in and wanting more. I can’t wait to start reading its sequel, Songs of Sparrows!
